🌱 Launching AutoMarketplace.com
AutoMarketplace.com wants to save NYC drivers and fleets money and time by connecting them to trustable local auto repair and service shops. The site aims to be majority owned by its users
When we initially launched AutoMarketplace NYC 📰 newsletter in August 2020 (then called TLCMKT), we thought there was a need for more news, discussion and transparency in the NYC for-hire transportation (aka TLC) industry. The City and the TLC industry, like the rest of the world, was forever changed by the COVID pandemic. TLC drivers got sick, some passed, some left NYC, some left the industry and so on. Trip demand fell off a cliff 📉📉. It was a confusing time, not easily understood or survived. However, not too dissimilar from other major historical events, a new paradigm arose.
For example, the disruption caused by the pandemic had some positives. It forced people, businesses and regulators (from NYC TLC drivers to fleet owners to regulators) to communicate in a way they never had before. In the fog and confusion of the pandemic, the idea of AutoMarketplace & AutoMarketplace.com was born.

👋 About Us
Before starting AutoMarketplace, we created and operated a vehicle fleet 🚘🚘🚖🚕 in NYC 🗽🍎. After millions of City miles 🌆, we learned many expensive lessons💰. This inspired us to create AutoMarketplace, an automotive & NYC for-hire transportation content platform and AutoMarketplace.com, an auto repair & services marketplace.
On AutoMarketplace.com you can find trustable local NYC area auto repair & service shops 👨🏽🔧, tire installers ⚙️, car washes & detailing providers 🧼. You'll also find a directory of towing providers and body shops ⚠️. The marketplace aims to be user owned. Owned by those who help grow the site and sustain the marketplace 👩🏿👨🏻🦳👨👨🏾👴🏽👩👨🏿🦲👩🏼🦳👧🏾. This unique rewards structure will be represented by a blockchain token.
🟩 User Ownership & Web3
The rise of the internet (Web1 🖥️) in the 1990s saw the creation of “read-only” online directories, a sort of digital Yellow Pages (if you remember what that was!).
This laid the foundation for modern eCommerce (Web2 📱) , often done on online marketplaces and social media sites. These eCommerce platforms function by charging a commission on sales, subscription fees, selling online ad space or a combination of the three.
Today, eCommerce is going through another transformation (Web3 🟩). Enabled by blockchain technology, eCommerce is being reimagined. Online marketplaces will be majority owned and controlled by users. Users benefit from growing and maintaining the marketplace. AutoMarketplace.com is built for this new paradigm.
We only have a few listings right now, but are in active discussions with several shops and other vendors. Fundamentally though 📢 we want to build in public 📢, given the Web3 concept and the how important forming an organic community is to the overall idea.
