🥳 2024: A Look Ahead, A Look Back
We share our most popular articles & videos from 2023. We also share some brief thoughts about our vision for AutoMarketplace and the year ahead.
🥳 Happy New Year!
As 2024 begins, we wanted to share the five (‘TOP 5’) most popular 2023 newsletter articles by open rate (% of people who open an email) and our five (‘TOP 5’) most popular 2023 YouTube videos by views. We’ll also briefly share some thoughts about our vision for AutoMarketplace, as 2024 kicks off.
2023: A Year Of Growth & Partnerships
2023, thanks to our subscribers, content partners and advertisers, was a transformative year for AutoMarketplace. We (Adrian Cruz, Jason Shaw and Dawood Mian) published over 160 newsletter articles, 75 videos on YouTube and started “podcasting” (both standalone & as a recurring guest on NYC Taxi News’ podcast with Abe Mittleman & Carolyn Protz).
We started content partnerships with NYC Taxi News, run by taxi industry veteran Abe Mittleman, and Black Car News, a nearly 40 year old NYC for-hire transportation trade publication (essentially an industry institution) run by long-time editor Neil Weiss. Abe, Carolyn and Neil’s kindness & openness in engaging the “new kid on the block” (us ✋) has been invaluable and greatly appreciated. We look forward to working with them on more ideas in 2024 to help keep TLC-licensed drivers and other industry participants informed. We also encourage all of our readers to engage with and subscribe to their content.
2024: Creating A Platform, Building A Community
Our goal, simply put, is to deliver valuable insight to the NYC TLC community, as it continues to face (& embrace) rapid changes - from ⚡ new technologies to 🚕 regulations. By creating a trusted and engaged platform we, along with our content partners, can offer an effective advertising platform for businesses looking to reach customers in the NYC for-hire transportation market. A market representing billions of yearly automotive-related spend, which includes over 150,000+ commercially licensed drivers and 100,000+ vehicles.
We are also big believers in the concept of “user ownership” (i.e., users have an economic stake in a business or network they help build) and think a prerequisite to facilitating such an ownership structure is building an engaged community. The next iteration of the internet (often called Web3), will likely be defined by user ownership using new technologies (blockchain). We’ve been building AutoMarketplace with this vision in mind. This is another reason we want to share our ideas, growth, engagement stats and eventually financials (when relevant), with our community.
We look forward to providing more insight, analysis and industry coverage in 2024 to keep your trust and engagement strong. We’re also excited to continue to grow and offer an opportunity for our subscribers to participate in that growth (more details to come on this over the next few months).

TOP 5 ARTICLES IN 2023 - Open Rate %
A newsletter’s "open rate" percentage is the percentage of people who opened a particular post after receiving an email or a Substack app (platform we use to host our newsletter) notification about it. This is a key metric for advertisers to show engagement. Note, if one person opens our post five times, that counts as one open.
