🗣️ Notable quotes from this month’s issue.
“[Victor Dizengoff] helped so many of us find our way, but I’m pretty sure not everyone remembers him as fondly as I do. He was as “New York” as they come, not afraid to speak his mind or challenge people in power. He was a force of nature who imposed his will on NYC’s transportation industry, helping to birth the Black Car Assistance Corporation (BCAC) and The New York Black Car Fund (NYBCF)…two ground-breaking organizations that continue to live on.”
- Neil Weiss, Black Car News, Editor, Publisher & Owner
“As I’ve said before, we’ve always supported the goals of congestion pricing but had serious concerns about how it would be applied to and affect the ground transportation industries. We submitted testimony during this latest comment period affirming that stance and urging the MTA to preserve the recommendations made by the Traffic Mobility Review Board (TMRB) because we believe it created a fair and equitable tolling structure.”
- Ira Goldstein, Executive Director of the Black Car Fund
“…[We] now have the largest zero-emissions rideshare fleet in the nation! In fewer than five months since passing the Green Rides Initiative, the EV fleet has grown by more than 300%. On top of that, our Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) trips also saw a 33% increase from Jan. 2023 to Jan. 2024. We now have nearly 10,000 accessible taxis and FHVs, the most in the agency’s history. That puts us two years ahead of schedule on our Green Rides goals, and means we’ve taken some very real strides in making our city more livable and sustainable.”
– David Do, NYC TLC Chair & Commissioner
