David Do, currently the Director of Washington D.C.’s Department of For-Hire Vehicles (previously known as D.C. Taxicab Commission until 2016), has been nominated by NYC Mayor Eric Adams to be the next NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) Chair. Do, who was previously a Director of the DC Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, is reported to be 34 years old. There appears to be broad support in City Hall and among other industry leaders, including the head of the NY Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA), Black Car Fund (BCF) and previous TLC Chairs Meera Joshi & Matthew Daus, to confirm Do’s nomination.
It doesn't appear there will be a contentious City Council confirmation hearing.
We also found an official D.C. government video profile, from a few years ago, and thought it would be interesting to share.
If Do is confirmed, there will still be several vacancies on the TLC Commission that would presumably be filled once a TLC Chair is officially appointed.
We’ll keep you up to date as the City Council confirmation process begins!
