Drive Sally Behind New Tesla Model 3 Yellow Cab, CEO Interviews Drivers After Every Shift
Business Insider interviews the fleet owner behind the Tesla yellow cab spotted in NYC over the weekend.
Business Insider published a story today giving more background on the fleet operator behind the Tesla Model 3 yellow cabs spotted around the city. Drive Sally founder and COO Adriel Gonzalez told the publication that they are still in a trial phase and each time a driver comes back from their shift he solicits feedback. Some interesting highlights from the article include:
Door Handles Drivers are reporting passengers are having trouble entering the vehicle due Tesla’s unusual door handles. Sally’s Gonzalez says that he plans to address the issue by adding a “push here” message.
One Shift Sally is currently running the Tesla Model 3 Yellow Cab one shift per day vs. two 12-hour shifts that most NYC taxi garages run.
Charging The car is charged overnight in Sally’s garage.
Range Anxiety One driver was reported to have returned to the garage after using just 50 miles of the 220 miles of range, while another driver drove the car back with only 5 miles of range left.
Yellow Cab Revival Gonzalez has plans to bring “hundreds” of Teslas to NYC, but is still “working out the kinks”. He also believes the City could mandate electric cabs in the future for sustainability reasons.
Black Car Industry Gonzalez also thinks that EVs could be better suited for the Black Car industry and that the more roomier Tesla Model Y may be the better vehicle, but notes its still too expensive.
