đ€ Driver Attacked By Passenger. Can't Sleep, Can't Work
Passenger going from New Hyde Park bar to Queens home, launches unprovoked attack on Lyft driver & it's all caught on driver's dash cam. Passenger's Lyft account deactivated, driver left shaken
Shahadat, a NYC area* for-hire transportation driver, was attacked by his own passenger, Maura Wooley (66), last Saturday night (December 9th).
PIX11 reports Ms. Wooley used Lyft to call a ride home to Queens from a New Hyde Park bar around 10pm. Eight minutes into the ride, without any obvious prior provocation, the driverâs dash camera appears to show an attack while Shahadat is driving.
Wooleyâs daughter told PIX11 she has no history of mental illness and believes her mother was severely intoxicated. She is now charged with attempted assault, obstruction of breathing, harassment and was issued a desk appearance ticket.
Shahadat is the sole provider for his family. He says he hasnât been able to sleep or bring himself to go back to work.
âWhy she attack me? I do nothingâŠâ
- Shahadat, NYC area* for-hire transportation driver
*Note: Given the pickup occurred in New Hyde Park (Nassau County), we cannot confirm Shahadat was driving a NYC TLC-plated vehicle, as a Nassau County TLC (NCTLC-plated) vehicle might also have been able to complete the trip.
If ever in danger, Lyft urges drivers to utilize the panic button on the app.
âThe behavior described has no place on the Lyft platform. We have reached out to the driver to offer our support, deactivated the ride requestorâs account from the platform and stand ready to assist law enforcement with any investigation.â
