⚡"First Come, First Served" Confusion Ahead Of New EV-Only TLC Plate Release
NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission's guidance that EV TLC Plate "interest" forms will be considered on a "first come, first served" basis is raising concerns among many TLC drivers ahead of March 15th
As we are getting closer to the HIGHLY anticipated EV-Only NYC TLC Plate online “Statement of Interest” form opening up next Wednesday, March 15th 2023 at an unknown time, many TLC drivers are nervous about the “first come, first served” process.
Firstly, no one knows what time the application opens and given that thousands of drivers will likely be constantly reloading the TLC site at the same time, there are fears of:
Submitting the form seconds or minutes behind others
Website crashing
We understand what the TLC is solving for, it wants to run a process that doesn’t favor any driver. In fact, it reminds us of how a university 🎓 opens course registration for the upcoming semester. At a specific time, many students are all logged-in and rush to register for classes, some having more demand than seats available.
However, there is a major difference here, certain NYC TLC drivers need to be given credit for being Seniors vs. Freshman, extending the university analogy. If a ten year TLC licensee who’s been leasing a vehicle is 2 minutes slower to submit their online Statement of Interest form vs. a TLC driver who just entered in the industry…that just doesn’t make any sense 🤔.
We urge the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission to amend the online “Statement of Interest” submission process ahead of next Wednesdays online form going “live” & create a mechanism that prioritizes need + merit vs. how quickly one can access a site and click a button.
