⚡⚫ First EV TLC Plate Under *New* Green Rides Initiative Is Now Active
TLC Chair David Do poses with recipient of first *new* EV-only FHV License (TLC Plate), under new Green Rides Initiative
NYC TLC Chair & Commissioner David Do posed with an individual that the TLC says represents the “first electric vehicle licensee to pass inspection and hit the road under the new [Green Rides] initiative.” As we reported, the TLC, in a surprise announcement, reinstated the EV exemption to the FHV License Pause (a/k/a TLC Plate Cap) on October 18th.
Interestingly, the approved vehicle appears to be a red 👀 Tesla Model Y. If we’re wrong and it’s a Model 3, please correct us. As a general rule, drivers should almost always purchase a vehicle with a black ⚫ exterior & ⚫ interior, if the vehicle is being used in the NYC for-hire transportation industry. This picture, also provides us a good opportunity to flag something to all TLC drivers and fleets.
As we reported recently, we don’t know if any (let alone affordable) NYC for-hire vehicle (FHV) comprehensive & collision insurance coverage is available for most Tesla models. In addition, (⚠️⚠️ this is to all drivers and fleets ⚠️⚠️), if you want to use a Tesla Model Y for UberBlack (which is why many purchase this vehicle) the exterior & interior color must be black ⚫ !
Please DO NOT make this mistake if you’re in the market for a UberBlack-qualified EV.

Behind that cheesy smile is a Do bursting to exclaim, “Hi! I’m TLC Chairman David Do and I single-handedly undermined yellow taxi medallion values, FHV driver pay, and set up a yet another TLC-induced disaster by flooding the NYC market with EVs that have no insurance and charging infrastructure!”
