“This is how I feed my kids, this is how I pay my bills. This is how I accomplish my dreams. We want Uber to be successful, a successful company, but we also want Uber to be fair.”
- Jose Tavares, NYC TLC Driver
As expected, hundreds of NYC TLC drivers boycotted the Uber app on Monday to protest a delayed increase to TLC’s Driver Minimum Pay Standards. Uber maintained its position that the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) had incorrectly calculated the new pay increases and further stated the boycott action didn’t have a material impact on its business.
Uber said there were 3% more drivers online Monday morning than on an average Monday during the last half of the year, , and wait times were in line with the average.
“Since 2019, driver pay has gone up 38.4% and drivers are out there today doing critical work for New Yorkers, not listening to political chatter on Twitter”

My take about these advocacy groups is that it’s funded by the city government. My question is if they will be out on the street when they start the congestion tax below 60th street. This will indeed hurt the drivers the most. Likely it’s because these advocacy groups are made to protest other than what the politicians supports. That’s why I find them as a scam and will never support them.
I have as much sympathy for these ride share drivers as they had for the taxi drivers they ripped off by illegally forcing their way into the market. They're nothing more than gypsy cab drivers working downtown and the airports.
