The NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) announced a hearing on January 11th & more details around the planned issuance of 1,000 NEW electric vehicle (EV-only) FHV licenses (a/k/a TLC Plates)
1,000 new EV-only TLC plate. Question: where are 1,000 people charging these vehicles? Batteries degrade over time, just like our cell phone batteries. They need to be replaced. The costs of materials for these batteries are skyrocketing due to difficulty in mining the materials. I’m assuming some if not most of these vehicles will be Tesla’s. That Tesla brand is quickly becoming hated by NYC Progressives because of its major shareholder’s politics. Does it make sense to purchase a Tesla? Putting aside politics, Teslas are relatively expensive. Do the economics of driving FHV make sense with Teslas? Oh, but the inconvenience of driving an EV vehicle in NYC. Good luck. I’d rather own a heavy, gas-guzzling noisy WAV vehicle. At least I can purchase gasoline wherever and whenever I want and I’m only at the pump for 5 minutes at most.

I had tlc. Plates 3 years ago a lady hit me and my family inside car and totaled it , in ct. after injured parties were unable to work entire year and my child traumatized I was only person working to keep bills half way afloat in queens ny, the insurance didn’t pay what was left on car loan. And left a huge mess followed by medical bills. Left us in a great debt. The salvage yard in ct. returned or destroyed the tlc plates ever since I’m still renting plates paying out of pocket CANT get out of debt I think all this unfair every person situation should be looked at differently , unable to afford a house mortgage I rent 3rd floor apt. Even I’d I could afford an electric vehicle which I cannot, how could I charge it,? My brother and I share car for work day/night while my wife walks sometimes miles to get milk or food for our two kids. I feel terrible for what happened to the yellow cab men over medallion loosing value however as a sole proprietor, with bad credit and no savings were all out here together struggling, g singh driver since 2017 Uber and year lyft. Thousands of trips work 7 days a week. And still for example couldn’t even afford my daughter first grade photos , it’s grace if god we get by and hard on entire city especially after pandemic. Do we need to have a fully electric car to apply? Or plans to at least get one? As well as it cannot be a hybrid correct?
