🛑 NYTWA Sues To Block 2,500 Restricted SHL TLC Plates
Taxi union sues to block (re)issuance of 2,500 SHL Permits that were part of newly approved TLC Pilot program. NYTWA believes adding more TLC-licensed vehicles will further dilute driver earnings
In a significant legal 👩⚖️ escalation, the New York Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA), one of the City’s largest driver advocacy groups, sued to blocked the issuance of up to 2,500 “restricted” FHV Licenses (a/k/a TLC Plates).
Although today’s legal action called for an immediate halt to the SHL Pilot, the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission (NYC TLC) seemed unphased, sending an industry wide email announcing the launch of the SHL Pilot Program tomorrow?! 🤔
The NYTWA summarized its lawsuit in a Twitter thread. Although Uber stated, as we recently reported, that it would not dispatch to the TLC Plates associated with the Pilot, the NYTWA still has concerns around the Pilot’s impact on the TLC driver earnings.
