π Red TLC-Plated Tesla Crashes Into Taxi, During Wild West Side Police Chase
NYPD says three people were arrested. TLC plate (T114295C) attached to Tesla is not active in City database & could imply vehicle was stolen. A yellow cab was also severely damaged during incident
ABC 7 NY reported on a chaotic NYPD police chase involving a red TLC-plated Tesla on Sunday night. The vehicle was towed after what eyewitnesses describe as a long and reckless run through the lower West Side of Manhattan (i.e., Tribeca, West Village, West Side Highway). The NYPD confirmed that three people were arrested. Investigators are now trying to determine if the event relates to a violent road rage incident earlier in Mount Vernon.
Based on our analysis and observation of the news footage, the red-TLC plated Tesla was pre-inspection and also not an active for-hire vehicle. Its TLC plate number - T114295C - does not appear on the current active NYC Open Data active For-Hire Vehicles list and the plate number itself implies the FHV License could (1) be part of the new EV-only TLC Plate release or (2) was recently removed from storage or had a plate transfer.
In the news footage, we also observed the vehicle did not have any blue TLC-inspection stickers (found on the lower front windshield and the back passenger windows). Itβs important to note, we do not know if the three people arrested owned the vehicle or actually stole it from a TLC-licensed driver or fleet, which would be another layer to this story. Unfortunately, the news footage also shows a yellow cab with significant physical damage, but there was no additional information provided on the condition of the yellow cab driver and/or passengers in the taxi.
"All of a sudden, see this red car trying to drive like a motorcycle in between the lanes...he started plowing through all the cars sitting there. Something straight out of the movies"
"Before you knew it, there was six to seven cops with their guns drawn, surrounding the car"
