Tesla Hiring Robotaxi Test Drivers in NYC — No Permits in Place Yet
Tesla’s hiring push for “Prototype Vehicle Operators” in Queens raises questions about permit requirements and oversight of Full Self-Driving (FSD) in NYC’s for-hire fleet
CNBC, along with several other media outlets, has confirmed an earlier InsideEVs report that Tesla appears to be ramping up efforts to launch a robotaxi service in New York City. However, unlike Waymo, Tesla has yet to apply for the required permits from the New York State DMV and NYC Department of Transportation (DOT).
Tesla is looking to hire “Prototype Vehicle Operators” to support its robotaxi and autonomous driving (AV) ambitions in NYC. The position, based in Flushing (Queens), offers up to $30.60 per hour (“+ cash and stock awards + benefits”).
