⚡ TLC Could Take 6 to 9 Months To Process ~10,000 New EV Plate Applications
NYTWA wants drivers that currently rent TLC vehicles to be prioritized (avoid duplicate vehicle & insurance payments). Also concerned about reports of increasing EV Plate application numbers, post TRO
In a new court filing, the New York Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA) sent a letter asking for an additional amendment to the New York State Supreme Court judge’s Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) re. EV TLC Plates. NYTWA is asking that the judge “limit the issuance of EV FHV licenses to active drivers in leasing arrangements, or else prioritize EV FHV license issuance to such drivers.”.
As a brief reminder, a NYS Supreme Court judge granted a TRO on November 8th, to stop (at least temporarily) the issuance of new EV FHV licenses (a/k/a EV TLC Plates) on the back of a NYTWA legal action against against the TLC and City. However, since there was a roughly 5 day period before the TRO became active, this (predictably) caused a “stampede” of nearly ~10,000 new EV TLC Plate applications.
Now, the NYTWA has several concerns (see letter below), including:
How long it will take TLC to process ~10,000 new EV TLC Plate applications. This could cause some drivers to be stuck paying for their current TLC rental and their newly acquired vehicle (plus insurance)
Inconsistent final EV TLC Plate application figures, which seem to be increasing post the TRO becoming effective on Monday, November 13th

6-9 months? Good! The longer, the better if ever. And any entity that submitted an application with fake VINs should be immediately DENIED because that means that other drivers with legitimate VINs suffered making car and insurance payments while not able to work.
