π TLC Plate Storage Removal Deadline Announced As August 31, 2023
The NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) announces all FHV licenses (aka TLC plates) in storage must be removed by August 31, 2023. 4,724 TLC plates are still reported to be in storage
In what will likely be seen as a welcome move among many in the TLC community, especially the taxi medallion industry, the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) announced an end to its pandemic era FHV License Storage Program.
Initially, the Program was created as a response to the pandemic emergency and the risk that tens of thousands of drivers and fleets would permanently lose their TLC plates as trip volume (income) disappeared, making it difficult to pay insurance premiums to keep their FHV licenses active.
Based on the latest TLC disclosure, 4,724 FHV licenses are in storage (as of July 2022).
If you are a driver or fleet seeking to get your TLC plates out of storage please see our video below for guidance. As some processes may have changed since the videoβs publication, the TLC has also provided updated guidance, which can be accessed here.

Hey man, I like your blog. I'm working towards getting my TLC license and have found your site to be filled with tons of invaluable info. Seriously, it's kind of crazy how there aren't many dedicated blogs to one of the biggest job sectors in NYC. I hope the city starts giving out more plates cause I don't like the idea of paying 400 a week to use a car, but I'm young with not that much debt so I'll probably save a lot of money in the long run.
