Manhattan pizza delivery cyclist killed by hit-and-run driver (NY Daily News / CBS NY)
Ernesto Guzman, 42, was en route to a delivery on his e-bike when an SUV driver hit him at Second Ave. and E. 97th St. in East Harlem, police said.
The driver, presumably a TLC driver given the vehicle was TLC-plated, was reported to be off duty (or at least not working for Uber) at the time of the incident and fled the scene after parking nearby.
No exact reporting is out on whether the driver has been found or arrested.
Guzman immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico in 2000 and worked at G&J’s Pizzeria on E. 104th St.
“I don’t even have words to say…I’m feeling terrible…I hope they arrest him and that he pays for what he did” - Leo Sidoro Guzman, brother of victim

Uber not ‘doing enough to protect women,’ assault victim charges in suit (NY Post)
A Westchester woman said she is a “shadow of her former self” after being the victim of an assault by a TLC driver in June 2018, according to a lawsuit against Uber, the for-hire service she used to get from Chelsea to her Rye Brook home.
The driver was arrested and eventually charged with first-degree sexual assault — but later acquitted during a 2019 trial after questions were raised about where the assault occurred.
“Uber knew that this car picked this woman up, they knew where the intended location was and they knew that this Uber driver stopped off route for 15 minutes. They knew it…They also know that thousands and thousands of women have been sexually assaulted before that night by their drivers, yet they’re advertising themselves as the safe alternative to a yellow cab or some other type of transit after dark” - Bill Brewer, prosecution lawyer
It’s worth noting that Uber has now rolled out “Ride Check” feature to flag long, unexpected stops during a trip.
