Top 5 NYC Black Car & Livery Companies Outside of Uber, Lyft and Via.
Unlike other cities or regions, where Uber and Lyft combined control 95%+ of the market, NYC still has local for-hire transport companies that actively compete.
When national rideshare market stats are published, adding Uber and Lyft market shares together usually gets you close to 100%, highlighting the duopolistic nature of their dominance in the national for-hire transport market. While Uber and Lyft undoubtedly have a dominant share of the NYC for-hire market, many may be surprised that local black car & livery companies still competitively operate (in addition to yellow and green cabs which had 22% share of total trips pre-pandemic, but that share has since fallen to 6% in May!).
Some companies drive trip volumes by focusing on specific niches, such as non-emergency medical transport (NEMT), while others drive trip volumes through offering a differentiated service (i.e. community car services where drivers often speak another language, such as Spanish, with passengers).
Here is the list of the top 5 NYC Black & Livery Car Bases outside of Uber, Lyft and Via. We have two lists: one pre-pandemic and the other reflecting May 2020 trips.

We used NYC Open Data and other publicly available information to calculate trip volumes (in certain instances trip volumes from multiple dispatch bases had to be added together as they represented the same company).
