π Bill Ackman, Famed Investor, Says Uber Stealing Tips From NYC Taxi Drivers
Bill Ackman, a renowned investor with a Twitter/X following of over 1 million, accuses Uber of stealing tips from NYC yellow cab drivers. Calls out Uber CEO and flags issue to Mayor Adams
When Bill Ackman, a renowned billionaire investor and founder of Pershing Square Capital Management, says something, people pay attention. About an hour ago, late Wednesday night, Ackman took to X (f/k/a Twitter) to share a major accusation against Uber, to his over 1 million followers. As of this writing, his post has already received over 7,700 likes, 1,500 reposts and 850 comments! Itβs only been been an hour!
He believes Uber is stealing tips from NYC yellow cab drivers. Uber has just begun to more actively dispatch trips to NYC yellow cab drivers, showing a taxi option to their customers, even when they request an Uber X.
In Ackmanβs strongly worded post, he said he texted Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi during the middle of the day, but didnβt receive a response back. The famed investor concludes his X post stating.
βUber needs to immediately return the stolen funds with interest to the NYC taxi drivers and to other drivers in any other markets where they are doing the same and they should deeply apologize. And Uber should restate its earnings to reflect this overstatement of margins and profits.
This needs to happen now. Mayor Adams, I am sure agrees.β

Below, we share a screenshot of Bill Ackmanβs public X post, including a redacted image he shared that appears to show his driver receiving no tip when Ackman says he added a $5 tip in the Uber app. We do not have permission to republish this image, but it can be publicly accessed on X.
I also thought Uber was keeping the tips. I work through the CMT terminal. The tips go to a separate account, a Netspend Skylight ONE card. It also allows you to create an online account for bank transfers. The communication about this was pretty much nonexistent. No contact from the TLC or CMT. I only found out about it through a chance conversation with a driver. You have to obtain the card at the CMT office.
