Led by longtime Editor & Publisher Neil Weiss, Black Car News (BCN) continues to be one of the most important voices in the NYC for-hire transportation industry.
Its monthly publication continues a near four decade tradition of providing thoughtful, NYC for-hire transportation (TLC) industry insight, from Neil himself and other market thought leaders, including:
Ira Goldstein, Executive Director of the Black Car Fund
David Do, NYC TLC Chair & Commissioner
Matthew W. Daus, Esq., Former NYC TLC Chair & current President of the International Association of Transportation Regulators (IATR)
AND…many others, including industry lawyers, TLC drivers, base owners, driver advocates and insurance companies
Notable quotes from this month’s issue.
“The MTA also loses an estimated 5% of its cashless toll plaza revenue due to toll evaders each year. To put it bluntly, it feels like this abysmally-run agency is trying to stop hemorrhaging money by syphoning blood from hard-working TLC-licensed drivers and pouring it into their leaky system.”
- Neil Weiss, Black Car News, Editor & Publisher
“Ultimately, parity among the ground transportation sectors is crucial. The government should not be picking winners and losers by giving unfair advantages to one group and not another. We will be testifying at the upcoming hearings to ensure that this point is made and heard.”
- Ira Goldstein, Executive Director of the Black Car Fund
“The taxi industry is really struggling right now, and I think the 23% fare increase was not a good idea. This increase favors only Uber. The New York Taxi Workers Alliance is shamelessly working in their favor. If it was a 10% increase, that could be reasonable, but 23% scares people away. Another fishy thing is JFK taxi dispatches seem intentionally slow these days. So many passengers wait for taxis, but no taxis are available. Why does the lot keep holding the taxis for a long time? Even if it has 50% taxis, it takes a driver more than two hours to get a fare.”
