The TLC has published its 2024 FHV License Review, reaching the below conclusion.
“TLC has conducted a thorough review of the state of the city’s FHV industry, including assessing trip volumes, vehicle supply, traffic congestion levels, driver earnings, license attrition rates, outer borough service, and electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. Based on the foregoing analysis, the pending litigation concerning TLC’s decision to issue EV-restricted licenses under the previous License Review, and the need to evaluate the impact of new licenses before determining whether any additional licenses should be made available, TLC finds that additional for-hire vehicle licenses are not needed at this time. Those interested in obtaining an FHV license may continue to apply for a WAV-restricted license.”

Given the FHV License Review only occurs once per year now, we believe this decision is effective until the next FHV License Review in February 2025. However, we will need to confirm this.

The damage is done. With congestion pricing looming soon one wonders if tlc was in cahoots with the state to issue more vehicles on the road for the additional $2.50 surcharge the state will collect per trip. A cash grab all around. It’s not about traffic, air quality or dare I say the Money Taking Agency improvements. Tax the working class.
The whole point of lockouts was to alleviate traffic. But it actually does the opposite. Drivers book the times when more people are using Uber/Lyft. it's a vicious cycle.
