The TLC has just begun to respond to NYTWA’s Article 78 action. TLC Assistant Commissioner for Policy James DiGiovanni revealed 1,200 EV applications have already been submitted 👀 since the surprise reinstatement of the EV exemption to the FHV License Pause (TLC Plate Cap)! It’s only been 20 days since the reinstatement was announced!!

NYTWA has been at the forefront of driver issues. They were responsible for initiating and following through on the recent settlement by Lyft and Uber for hundreds of millions of dollars and starting a sick-pay program for drivers. IDG, the other driver advocacy group with a possible conflict as they are wholly or partially funded by Uber and Lyft, was quiet and only jumped on the coattails of the settlement win by directing drivers on how to collect the money NYTWA worked hard over eight years to win for drivers. Now NYTWA is attacking this very issue of EV exemption that can have profound negative consequences for taxi medallion owners and both yellow taxi and FHV drivers. Will IDG badmouth NYTWA for this action? I’ll wait and see. It’s time for driver advocacy groups to put aside their differences and come together and present a united front for ALL DRIVERS, especially on this issue of EV exemption. IDG needs to prove it is not a pansy to Uber and Lyft.
