NYC MTA is the biggest corrupt gangster in the country! The NYS , NYC government is another corrupt mafia. $9 to come to the city and this money go to packet of MTA! MTA and government promises improve infrastructure when starting collection of ripoff tolls! What improvements? The city roads are in the mess right now. Just look at Madison Ave what another communist clueless mayor did .I wish Empower good luck

The MTA has been running deficits for years now, so agree it's inefficiently run. That said, we might not agree with paying taxes but you wouldn't simply stop paying the IRS. Remember, Empower is not arguing the taxes shouldn't get paid, they are arguing drivers/passengers should figure out the remittance themselves (not standard practice and not made clear by them to drivers/passengers). By continuing to operate this way they put drivers and passengers at risk, drivers could lose their TLC driver licenses and insurance coverage, that's very unethical.

I believe even with sales tax, bcf and other fees the price for passengers would still be cheaper than uber/lyft and drivers would also get more money.

Do u know about the Obi app? It shows you most prices on different apps and car service. Recently they put Empower and its always the cheapest options. Most passengers and some drivers still are not aware that Empower is not a legal base in nYc.

Great, then they should do that and truly (+legally) compete on price! More power to them.

Other point being missed by many is if they are dispatching over 10,000 trips per day (which it appears they are) then they need to abide by driver minimum driver pay rules / utilization. The price differential they can offer might still be cheaper (yellow cabs are much cheaper) but they need to get legal quick, or the whole platform is going to be shutdown, which honestly I don't want to see either. The liability this company is putting on drivers is very unethical. You think NY / MTA is not going after the tens of millions they are owed? This game they are playing can only go on for so long when that much government money is at stake.

Also, yes I know the Obi app (know the people who run it fairly well, have met with them several times and we've spoken about Empower actually!).

They will not be able to keep the 53% utilization rates im afraid.
