βStatement of Interestβ form for 600 (of 1,000) *NEW* EV-only TLC Plates opens up (βgoes liveβ) at 10am this upcoming Wednesday, March 15th
The form appears to be a simple informational or confirmatory form that a qualified TLC driver fills out and submits, but VERY unclear
We think NYC TLC drivers should be prepared to act quickly & also have prepared answers to questions about motivation for applying
Given βFirst Come, First Servedβ protocol, drivers interested in participating NEED TO BE PREPARED ahead of 10am
TLC Drivers DO NOT need to have or acquire an EV, UNTIL the TLC reviews and responds to Statement of Interest submission
AutoMarketplace will provide active / βliveβ coverage on Wednesday
As we are getting closer to the HIGHLY anticipated EV-Only NYC TLC Plate online βStatement of Interestβ form opening up this Wednesday, March 15th 2023 at 10am time, many TLC drivers are anxious.
The lack of specific information on what the Statement of Interest form includes, compounded by the βFirst Come, First Servedβ protocol, is causing confusion. We briefly share what we know (Note: TLCβs website could be updated after the publication of this article).
ποΈ Be Ready
What we know thus far is an online Statement of Interest form goes live at 10am on Wednesday. As to what exactly is contained in the form the TLC simply states:
βThe Statement of Interest is submitted using an online form on the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission website stating you are interested in applying for a new electric vehicle license.β
We also want to reiterate to those drivers interested in applying that they DO NOT need to have or acquire an EV vehicle, UNTIL the TLC reviews and positively responds to the Statement of Interest submission - confirming a vehicle license allocation.
In case the TLC doesnβt change its βFirst Come, First Servedβ protocol, drivers should prepare to act quickly, making sure they have a strong & stable internet connection π, are not distracted (i.e., driving), reference an accurate watch βπ± and be on the TLC π±οΈπ guided site before 10am (refreshing the page constantly as 10am approaches and passes until the form or link to the form appears).
Given our paranoid nature, we also think itβs a good idea for drivers to type up a few sentences (on their phone or computer π₯οΈ π± so they can easily copy, paste into an electronic form, IF required) about why they are applying for an EV TLC Plate. Perhaps itβs not needed, but itβs always good to be prepared.
If any new information becomes available, we will update our readers. In addition, we plan to publish actively on Wednesday before and shortly after 10am, including on our YouTube channel.
