Application Period for 400 Electric Vehicle (EV) Licenses

The 30-day requirement in order to purchase and register an Electric Vehicle should be increased to 120 like the application on march 15. The justification for this is that Tesla (largest ev maker in the world) dealerships in the tristate area currently estimate that orders placed today may not arrive until July due to a surge in demand from the federal ev tax credits. This on top of the surge in demand from the ev license mandate will only serve to push back the availability of vehicles even further which will cause drivers who are eligible for the ev restricted plate to be unable to purchase a vehicle within the required 30 days.

I was waiting from 9:00am and at 10:00am sharp but there wasn’t any application link available. It wasn’t fare for all the applicants. TLC must reconsider for those who missed the opportunity.

This was a very poorly run process & confusing why they thought this was the best way to conduct it. We even wrote an article warning about this last week - https://automarketplace.substack.com/p/first-come-first-served-confusion

It seems like the TLC planned to automatically shut access to the form, as soon as it got 600 submissions! This occurred within 4-5 minutes! Insane process, many are upset & confused - https://automarketplace.substack.com/p/nyc-tlc-closes-statement-of-interest

TLC: β€œOn your mark, get set, GO! Wait! FUUUU…”

I guess a billion dollars in fees and fines only gets you a Three Stooges tech department these days.

TLC UPDATE, 10:31 am: Portal for EV now closed. Have to wait for chance for 400.
