An NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission (NYC TLC) meeting was virtually held today and lasted about seven minutes. This was the first official Commission meeting post the resignation of previous TLC Chair Aloysee Heredia Jarmoszuk. Acting Chair Ryan Wanttaja, who was previously TLC General Counsel, led the meeting. The resignation of the previous TLC Chair was briefly discussed and she was thanked for her service. In addition, it was revealed that TLC Commissioner [Lauvienska] Polanco had also resigned after 14 years (appointed in 2007). Commissioner Polanco’s and the TLC Chair’s resignation didn't immediately seem to be related to one another.
The highlights of the meeting included the following:
Mention of two proposed rule packages for public hearing on April 5th related to medallion ownership annual disclosures and a proposal to raise yellow cab JFK “flat rates” from $52 to $65. In addition, the proposal would create a $39 flat fare for rides between LaGuardia Airport and parts of Manhattan below West 110th Street and East 96th Street
Discussion of the extending the Taxi Medallion Owner Relief Program related to a City guarantee. It was also revealed that the TLC has thus far helped 263 medallion owners with their medallion loans (over $30 million of reduced debt was noted). 1,600 medallions owners have reportedly made appointments
Sherryl [Aluto] was introduced as acting TLC General Counsel with acting Chair Ryan Wanttaja stating he was simply keeping the TLC Chair seat “warm”. In other words we might expect a new TLC Chair appointment soon
Votes on approval of base applications and other items on the agenda (i.e., Medallion Relief Program)
FHV License Pause Determination (aka TLC Plate Cap) Report Due Soon
Finally, it's worth mentioning that the biannual determination on FHV licenses should be coming out very soon. Last year, the results of the February review were published on Friday, March 19th (below is an image from last year). Implying we should have a new “TLC Plate Cap” determination report tomorrow or early next week.
