While the Tesla Model 3 and Y have been garnering all the attention with NYC taxi passengers and social media, recent photographs of a Ford Mustang Mach-E NYC yellow cab should soon be making waves with passengers and on social media. It’s Ford’s EV answer to the Tesla Model Y.
While the car cleans up very well as a NYC yellow cab, can it compete with EV juggernaut Tesla, both with NYC drivers and passengers?
Ford Authority reported on the Ford Mustang Mach-E taxi a few days ago and even discussed the possibility of the car being used by the Michigan State Police & The Department of Homeland Security. While looks are important, performance and reliability will make or break a car in the eyes of most NYC TLC drivers, who often put well over 25,000 CITY miles on their car in a year. For example, in September Ford issued recalls for the Mustang Mach-E due to potential issues related to the windshield and sunroof, which may have been improperly bounded. The windshield recall applied to over 17,000 Mach-Es made between February 2020 and June 2021!
I’m glad to see other manufacturers make EV options for drivers, but in order to beat Tesla (and for Tesla to compete as well with gas cars) they will need to ensure reliability standards. It also should mentioned that Ford has built out access to a charging network (BlueOval™ Charge Network) and has also partnered with Electrify America for fast-charging stations.
For now, look out for the Mustang Mach-E yellow cab on the roads and social media! While the EV revolution is well underway in NYC, it’s still early days and something we will cover more at AutoMarketplace.
Would you buy a Mustang Mach-E for the NYC for-hire industry? Why or why not? How do you view it vs. a Tesla Model Y or Model 3?
