⚡⬛ 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ | EV Luxury for Uber Black & NYC Black Car Service
AutoMarketplace reviews the all-electric 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ, a popular EV for NYC TLC drivers who want to work on the Uber Black platform
While it might not seem like a big number, when contextualized as a percent (%) of all NYC for-hire vehicles (FHVs) that qualify for Uber’s luxury (or premium) service offering (Uber Black (Uber Comfort)), the Cadillac LYRIQ has gained significant traction. In fact, a recent Bloomberg article stated the LYRIQ was the “only bright spot left in the American EV market”, outselling models from Mercedes and BMW.
“Even as the shine wears off much of the EV market, Cadillac’s Lyriq has emerged as a rising star. General Motors Co. sold almost 6,000 of them in the first quarter, besting nearly all of its German luxury rivals and a number of more pedestrian battery-powered models, according to new data from Cox Automotive.”

In our video below, the AutoMarketplace team reviews a NYC TLC-plated 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ. We rented the LYRIQ from a former fleet customer and long-time NYC TLC driver who transitioned from a gas-powered 2019 Cadillac XTS to the all-electric 2024 LYRIQ. Our team conducted an extensive review over a three week period, including logging over 200 NYC Uber (TLC) trips.
We cover many topics, including:
Overviewing the LYRIQ’s features
Experience with and tutorial of charging the LYRIQ in NYC
NYC “charging lines” and charging credit card holds
Discussing how weather impacts the LYRIQ’s driving range
Pros & Cons of using the LYRIQ for NYC TLC work
Cost of full coverage NYC TLC insurance
As we go over in the video review and discussion, although the LYRIQ’s all-in price tag (MSRP) is typically north of $65,000 and full coverage NYC TLC insurance ☂️ can cost ~$10,000 (👀) per year, it’s one of the few EVs that (1) qualifies for Uber Black and (2) meets traditional NYC driver and passenger expectations 💎 of what an Uber Black vehicle should be (no offense to the Tesla Model Y 😑, nice car but luxury?! 🤷♀️).
Based on AutoMarketplace analysis, we believe there are already close to ~180 TLC-plated Cadillac LYRIQs, the majority (as one might expect) seem to have been purchased as a result of the October 2023 reinstatement (now closed) of the EV exemption to the FHV License Pause (TLC Plate Cap). Based on our analysis, the vast majority of the TLC-plated LYRIQ fleet appear to be the 2024 model year. The recent NHTSA probe we reported on appears to only apply to the 2023 model year.
We hope you enjoy the review!
Very good detailed video but I stopped at waiting for a super charging station behind other cars and then another 45-60 minutes for the vehicle to actually charge. That is time away from your loved ones while making NO MONEY charging your $65k+ vehicle. No, thanks.
I’d love to see an analysis of earnings per hour that includes this ridiculousness of searching for super charging stations, waiting for a super charger behind other vehicles, and time spent charging. A straight computation of earnings earned in a shift and the time it took to do trips and bring the vehicle back to fully charged (or that magical 80%) state for a standard unit of earnings per hour. It would be interesting to see what those earnings per hour are for the different seasons (winter, spring, summer, and fall).
